Ben Waters | Trader
This is the blog of Ben Waters, trader, who has been an equity delta one trader since 2019. This blog will explore various aspects of Mr Waters’ professional life, covering a range of topics including value investing, what makes a good hedge fund manager, data analytics and equity trading trends.
Value Investors
Experienced value investors like Benjamin Waters, trader, purchase bonds, stocks, real estate or other assets for what they hope is less than they are worth. These investors seek to uncover an asset’s intrinsic value and have the patience to wait until this asset can be bought at a price lower than this. The strategy is rooted in the premise that investors who purchase a company’s stock own a part of this business and involves paying close attention to these companies’ underlying fundamentals.

Hedge Fund Manager
Successful hedge fund managers may use several strategies in a bid to maximise returns for their clients or firms. Global macro investing is a popular strategy that involves investing in tandem with a significant share of sizeable position in markets dealing with predicting macroeconomic trends on a worldwide scale. This strategy, while being dependent on precision timing, offers hedge fund managers the flexibility they require. Event-driven strategy is also popular among hedge fund managers, which is where attractive opportunities are sought to capitalise on corporate environments.
The responsibilities of a hedge fund manager are likely to include deciding how to invest the money in the fund, choosing analysts and traders able to execute trades and research investment opportunities, raising capital for fund investments, meeting with existing and potential investors, and selecting high-risk investments that are in line with the fund’s mandate around high profitability. Monitoring fund investments and markets carefully also falls within a hedge fund manager’s remit, in order to rebalance the portfolio as required.
Data Analytics
For traders and investors like Mr Waters, data analytics play a crucial role in their endeavours, and AI tools are already drastically reshaping the data analytics environment. Looking ahead, the rise of AI-driven insights and augmented analytics are set to become increasingly important, promoting data-led decision-making and democratising access to invaluable insights. It’s anticipated that the Internet of Things (IoT) will promote the demand for real-time analytics, while DataOps will emerge as key to the consistent and continuous delivery of insights.
In terms of equity trends beyond 2024, the general mood is a positive one, with favourable investment themes (such as investment in AI) fuelling stocks and anticipated dividend growth adding to this overall sense of optimism.
