Ben Waters, trader, is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE); he graduated in 2018 with a BSc in Accounting and Finance. Since 2012, Mr Waters has managed a portfolio of real money, using the profits from his trading activities to fund his university tuition and associated living costs. Investing primarily on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, he mainly focuses on equity options and stocks, implementing bull spreads, outright calls, covered spreads and calendar calls, maintaining a maximum of 90% of his portfolio in stocks he believes will perform well. Choosing these stocks involves both valuation and fundamental analysis.
Career History & Experience
As an investment analyst for the University of Auckland Investment Club Inc from June 2014 to June 2015, Mr Waters was required to follow the committee’s thorough and intensive investment selection process that required both valuation (using the DCF model) and fundamental analysis. Here, he managed a fund of $140,000 and was the recipient of the club’s Outstanding Performance by a UAIC Committee Member 2014–2015 award due to the success of his endeavours in this role.
From June to August 2017, Benjamin Waters, trader, worked as a summer analyst for Citi, London, on the Trading Execution Desk, dealing in markets and securities services. Since March 2019, Mr Waters has been an equity delta one trader in Global Indices/MSCI.
Skills & Hobbies
Highly astute at taking risks and managing D1 derivatives and cash products, Mr Waters has a sharp eye regarding alpha opportunities, along with an appetite for taking on reasonable risks to potentially achieve outsized returns. He has proven quantitative and analytical skills within financial markets and products, as well as the ability to lead a team to achieve success and progression. In terms of technical skills, Mr Waters has extensive experience in index delta one, delta one index arbitrage, MSCI futures, total return swaps, equities, equity options, index options, computer programming, Matlab, Python, Excel and VBA.
When he’s not working, Mr Waters enjoys a wide range of sports, particularly basketball, tennis and sailing, and loves to travel.
